SALT LAKE CITY — A South Salt Lake City Police officer broke up a physical altercation that resulted due to an iPhone going bad.
On Friday, May 13, Officer M. Haggard of the South Salt Lake City Police Department was made aware of the incident occurring in a parking lot. According to an Affidavit of Probable Cause, Haggard saw two men in a physical altercation. One man was attempting to leave a vehicle. He was later identified as the suspect, John Iten.
The fight over the iPhone comes out
Police say, Item was selling two iPhones to the victim.
“Item produced a SIM card that the victim placed into his own phone. The victim believed Iten used the SIM card to steal personal information and an argument ensued,” said Haggard in the Affidavit of Probable Cause.
After the argument, the victim told Iten he was going to call the police. Item attempted to flee but was stopped by the victim.
“… in the process Item placed both hands around the victim’s neck, thumbs over the trachea and applied pressure,” said Haggard.
The victim told police he became lightheaded and was unable to breath. He hit Item in the head to make him remove his hands from his throat.
According to the Affidavit, Item is facing a charge of aggravated assault.
