ABU DHABIUAE, May 13, 2022 /CNW/ – The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center (ALC), part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), has unveiled the agenda of activities for the next Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) 2022, at a press conference held today at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation.
the 31St. ADIBF edition brings together more than 1,100 publishers from more than 80 countries in more than 450 diverse activities that adapt to the aspirations of the audience, including round tables, seminars, literary and cultural evenings, the activities of the Professional Program for Publishers and activities designed for children – all presented by leading experts and academics.
The press conference was attended by Hon. dr Ali Bin TamimPresident of the LAC; Saeed Hamdan Al TunaijiActing Executive Director of LAC and Director of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, and Abdul Raheem Al Bateeh Al Nuaimi, Acting CEO of Abu Dhabi Media (ADIBF Platinum Partner), along with a host of cultural figures and enthusiasts. A German delegation from the frankfurt book fair participated in the conference, including Claudia KaiserVice President, Frankfurt Book Fair.

In his virtual speech, Juergen BoosDirector of the Frankfurt International Book Fair, underlined the importance of ADIBF, qualifying it as a heavyweight in the publishing industry, while mentioning that holding the fair Germany as guest of honor embodies the strong cultural ties between the UAE and Germany. Boo added that Germany would participate in the exhibition with more than 40 events, with leading German writers and thinkers participating in daily workshops, dedicated to schools and children.
For its part, Saeed Al Tunaiji detailed some of the main events and activities that will take place at ADIBF this year. “The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair will continue to be a beacon of knowledge and creativity, bringing creative minds together around it. With that in mind, we have developed an agenda for this year’s edition that reflects the respected position of the event on the Arab and world stage”. he said.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi will be part of the fair this year, hosting a series of seminars and round tables that will bring together some of the most prominent guests of ADIBF 2022, such as the Syrian poet and critic Adonis; Guido Imbens, who received half of the 2021 Nobel Prize in Economics; Teacher. roger allen, leading Western researcher in modern Arabic literature; Teacher. Homi K. BhabhaProfessor of Humanities and thought leader on colonial and postcolonial theory, Harvard University; Teacher. Muhsin J. al-MusawiProfessor of Arabic and Comparative Literature at Columbia University in New York; Y Brent Weeksthe New York Times Bestselling author of eight fantasy novels, along with several world-renowned authors, thinkers, and cultural figures.
A number of art exhibitions are on the agenda for this year’s fair, in particular a display by the renowned Japanese calligrapher. Fouad Honda which will shed light on the intersections between Arabic and Japanese cultures through Arabic calligraphy. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a selection of panel discussions, as well as poetic, literary and cultural evenings, bringing together leading Arab, Emirati and international intellectuals.
ADIBF 2022 will also host the inaugural Arab Publishing and Creative Industries International Congress, the first event of its kind in the Arab world, which will discuss the latest trends in publishing and highlight the importance of digital publishing with a dedicated corner.
ADIBF is also organizing an educational program that will target students of different grades and age groups. The program will engage students in a series of panel discussions and workshops, allowing them to explore inspiring models and academic best practices, which, in turn, will encourage them to enhance their own creativity, develop their intellectual potential, and expand their knowledge of various key themes. Sessions will be broadcast live to schools and universities, and various events will be held at these academic institutions, including in New York University Abu Dhabi and Khalifa University.
